Water temperature microprofiles at the air-water interface of a stratified lake were measured concurrently with moderate wind speeds 0.8–8.2 ms?1 above surface. The day-time measurements revealed cool skin effect water surface temperatures that triggers cooling and occurrence natural convection. Natural convection velocity scale mediates thickness diffusive thermal sublayer corresponding net heat flux interface. ranged from 0.7 to 3.6 mm. proposed parameterization skin-to-bulk enable similarity scaling over thickness. parameterizations allow for estimation difference in presence Our results have potential facilitate validation integration satellite-derived temperatures.
